Copper Mine

Grandpa Randy and Grandma ReNae came down yesterday and we all went to the Kennecott/Bingham Canyon Copper Mine together. The boys were excited to see the HUGE trucks. It was all pretty amazing, and we learned a lot about what they do and how they do it. We were hoping to get a bit closer to the massive trucks they drive. Maybe just a short test drive or atleast sit in the drivers seat. But we just had to look at them from a distance.

Grandpa and Grandma with Kayli Tyler and Zach standing by one of the massive tires used on the trucks. Each tire costs $25,000 and each truck has 6 of them. They only last about 9 months.

The trucks are 23 feet tall and can carry from 255 to 360 tons of rock. The driver sits 18 feet off the ground (2 stories high) while driving. This is as close as we could get to one. They drive up and down the roads at 15 miles an hour. Pretty amazing!
